The Illinois Geologic Survey (“IGS”) has extensive information in the region indicating that SustainaBlue’s site and surrounding areas have high capacity for sequestering large amounts of CO2
The New Albany Shale group contains numerous formations in Illinois that are ideal for CO2 sequestration
Part of the New Albany Shale group includes the St. Peter and Everton sandstones in plant’s region which are thick, have a high porosity, and are considered to be high potential formations for CO2 injection
The Maquoketa shale formation (a New Albany subgroup) overlays the St. Peter/Everton sandstones and would cap any CO2 that was injected into the sandstone layers

The ammonia production process produces CO2 in two main streams:
Ammonia process stream – concentrated stream of CO2easily captured (~510,000 Tonnes/year)
Steam reformer flue gas – diffuse stream of CO2, not as easily captured (~200,000 Tonnes/year). SustainaBlue may install new equipment when technology becomes economical
SustainaBlue will compress captured CO2 and inject on-site for permanent storage
CO2 will be permanently sequestered once properly stored
